Austin Remembers: MLK, an app honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King for iOS & Android (2017)

The “Austin Remembers: MLK “ App is an augmented reality experience celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his influence on Austin, Texas. The app creates a digital mixed-media installation at your location using your device's camera, compass, GPS location, and other sensors to overlay the real world with audio, video, and other interactive digital content.

If you are at the Texas State Capitol building stand near the south steps and while using the augzoo® app look through your phone to see the interactive memorials.  The digital installation spans from the South Steps of the Texas Capitol to the Texas African American History memorial located inside and just west of the Capitol’s south gates.

Historical images were provided by the LBJ Presidential Library.  Dr. Martin Luther King's image was licensed by Intellectual Properties Management, Inc.   Mini-documentary videos were provided by East Austin non-profit Six Square.   We also extend a special thank you to the Austin Area Heritage Council for their help and support.

This app is retired from the store.

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
