East: Sun – Rise AR Intervention Ends This Weekend – Explore Austin’s Sites of Memory in AR
For the past month, East Austinites and visitors alike have had the chance to experience East: Sun – Rise AR Intervention, an augmented reality project by Adrian Aguilera in collaboration with augzoo. This AR installation spans 11 sites of memory throughout East Austin, each featuring archival images and narratives that illuminate the city’s Black and Latino communities.
Through augmented reality, this project restores visibility to the communities that built East Austin, bringing historical photos from the Austin History Center back to their original locations. One of these sites, UT’s Visual Arts Center (VAC), has served as a focal point for the exhibit, connecting students and visitors to Austin’s rich cultural past.
Augzoo is honored to support this project, using AR to preserve stories that are too often overlooked. As highlighted in The Daily Texan, East: Sun – Rise AR Intervention is more than an art installation—it’s a living history experience, helping communities engage with their past in real-world spaces.
This weekend is your last chance to explore the AR experience before the exhibition officially ends on March 8! Don’t miss this opportunity to see Austin’s history in a new dimension.
